The
Temiskaming Art Gallery (T.A.G.) has been called ` the Tiny, Perfect
Gallery’ by one of its founders. A jewel of northern exhibition halls,
TAG’s small size has been no drawback. Instead the gallery has
achieved an intimacy and friendliness that is difficult to come by in
large urban spaces. From the belief that
art is a basic form of human expression that enriches our lives, the
Temiskaming Art Gallery aims to provide opportunities to understand,
experience and appreciate visual art. Towards this aim, T.A.G. has
exhibited everything from large modern canvases to over a hundred small
works. Exhibited works have been drawn from such Canadian luminaries as
Emily Carr, Tom Thomson, the Group of Seven, Alex Colville to talented
local artists, both amateur and professional. T.A.G. was formed in 1980 as a public, not-for-profit exhibition space to showcase the local art club, the Temiskaming Palette and Brush Club. It quickly grew, opening its space to artists across Canada. T.A.G. showcases a variety of technique and media as it offers residents of Temiskaming, and their visitors, an opportunity to explore and study art at its most personal and approachable. The gallery is located in the Town of Haileybury on Highway 11B at Lakeshore Road. It can be found in the Haileybury Public Library building, at the north end of the library. |
